The Yacht Club

Fact-File
Location: Newport Bay Club
Type of Restaurant: Table Service
Cost: 50-55 euro for 3 courses from the set Regate menu with a soft drink. 26-33 euro for children depending on their set menu. You can use your plus dining to order from the Regate menu and premium dining to order anything else.
Option to reserve a table: Yes
Character dining: No.

Prior to my most recent Disney trip, I had never visited a table service restaurant outside of the village. Let alone a hotel restaurant that wasn't buffet style. However, thanks to our meal plans, the family and I decided to try the Yacht Club. Newport Bay's table service restaurant that specialises in New England cuisine with a Mediterranean twist.

Being on the plus dining plan, my family and I ate from the Regate menu. This is the cheapest of the two set menus but let's be honest £43 for 3 course without a drink is pretty damn expensive. Like I paid £25 for everybody to eat at Burger King at a service station yesterday and they had a beverage each.

So the question then becomes whether it is all worth it. Well, firstly, I have to give props to the decoration. The lamps provide a nice element of understated theming and it all looked wonderful. I felt completely immersed in the experience. Certain hotel restaurants need to take note. 🐸🍵

Of course, pretty theming doesn't mean jack if the food is crap. Fortunately Stephane Favero's has a really good vision with his menu and some of his dishes are a treat to the senses.

For example, I started with Yacht Club style mussels. As a mussel virgin who was slightly paranoid about them being under cooked, I was pleased to see that every mussel was open. Yes. I wasn't going to die, this meal!

However, the lack of death wasn't the only good thing about this starter. The mussels were lovely and chewy and easily melted in my mouth. The best thing about this starter is the broth. Oh my goodness, this was beautiful. Mr Favero, I salute you! It was so aromatic and I couldn't help but smile as I took every single mouthful.

For my main I had vegetable linguine with red pesto. This was OK. The vegetables and mushrooms were cooked beautifully and I happily ate each one (even thought I despises veg). My only critique was that there wasn't as much pesto on the pasta as a would've like. Mainly because I'm a saucy woman and prefer more of the stuff on my pasta. That's just being super picky though!

I also tried my parent's chicken which was served with a thyme jus. The chicken was wonderfully tender and the jus was just another sensation entirely. Looking back, I should've ordered this instead and I would highly recommend you order this on your visit.

Then we get to dessert! This apple tart was quite unique in that it was made with puff pastry unlike the one at Chef Remy. The taste of this tart is just as beautiful as the presentation. The sweetness of the cooked apples completed the tartness of the garnish and was topped off with the creamiest vanilla ice-cream I think I've ever tasted. A lot of people think the Italians make a mean ice-cream but this dish showed that the French are also pretty damn awesome!

Overall this place is a must do if you are on the plus or premium meal plan. The food and atmosphere is fantastic and it is a really wonderful place to spend 2 hours. However I do question whether one should visit this place if they are paying with their own dollar since you do need to walk a good 5-10 minutes from the village to get there and tables can be hard to come by. That being said, Favero can put together a stunning menu that delights every sense and heck it might even justify the money. Note how I said MIGHT.

Final Score: 9.5/10
