Bistrot Chez Remy (aka Chef Remy)

Fact File

Location: Walt Disney Studios
Type of restaurant: Table Service
Cost: 46 euro for 3 courses on the Emile menu with a soft drink. This goes up to 67 euro if you are eating from the Gusteau menu. 19-33 euro for children according to menu selected.
Option to reserve a table: Yes
Character dining: No

I have previously said that one's dining experience at the studios varies entirely on what you are willing to pay. Whilst I bashed Restaurant en Coulisse as an overcrowded mess, I gave Resturant des Stars a 10/10 and called it my favourite dining location in the park. So the million euro question becomes where does Bistrot Chez Remy lie?

I will start by saying that this place has the best theming in the whole park. Whether it's the newspaper reviews that are in the lobby as you wait for your table or the bottle caps that are wired together to make your seating, this place is full of little Easter-eggs that will delight any fans of the original Pixar film.

No automatic alt text available.

Of course, this is World of Food, not world of pretty theming. I have to firstly start on the one minor negative. There are only 2 starters to pick from regardless of menu and one of those starters is actually on both (the seasonal soup). Given the price Disney are expecting people to pay, I personally don't think it's unreasonable to request at least 3 starters per menu. Especially given that one can only dine from a set menu as opposed to other table-service venues that give you the option to dine al-la-carte.

That being said, the food it does provide is VERY good. I had the egg and greens for a starter. The vingarette was a wonderful flavour that really uplifted the dish and the egg was actually pretty damn good. That is a big deal given I hate egg unless it's in a cake/omelette. The other MVP was the sun dried tomato which was an absolute heaven on my tongue. Definitely the best part of the starter. My only nit pick is that there was slightly a little bit too much cheese for my liking.

My main was the steak which I chose to have to have cook medium. This steak was accompained with chips, ratatouille and a sauce of your choice. I chose to have the "chef's sauce" which was the consistency of a peppercorn  sauce with a slighly meaty taste. It was super good and I would highly recommend you choosing it if you have your steak here. My steak was cooked beautifully and was tender without mooing on my plate. Congratulations Chez Remy, I'm very impressed.

There's a reason that ratatouille is served with every dish here and that's because it's pretty bloody (sorry parents for the mild expletive) fantastic. All the vegetables were beautifully cooked and fully seasoned. I am happy to say that I cleared to my whole plate because every element was so good. I would highly recommend this dish to any meat lover who plans to visit.

Finally dessert. Now for me, puddings make or break a restaurant. So how did Remy do? He did OK. Well, he actually did more than OK, my apple tart was beautiful. The chocolate curl was a very rich garment. It's important to note that milk chocolate in France actually has more cocoa solids than British chocolate which means it can taste more "darker" than expected.

That slight bitterness however, works really well with the sweetness of the apples and the Creme Anglais. The caramelised apples were enclosed in a shortcrust pastry which was beautifully cooked. Not a single soggy bottom in sight. The combination of flavours and textures worked wonders on my palette and I completely cleared my plate.

Overall, this is the best themed restaurant in Walt Disney Studios by far and the food isn't too bad either. However, I would like to see another starter or two on the menus for me to try when I go back because I will go back if I get the opportunity. A must try if you're on the meal plan or fancy treating yourself whilst you're on holiday.

Final Score: 9/10
