Restaurant en Coulisse

Fact-File

  • Location: Walt Disney Studios Park
  • Type of restaurant: Counter Service
  • Cost: 13-17 euro for a combo meal.
  • Option to reserve a table: No
  • Character Dining: No.
When it comes to food at Disney parks, Disneyland Paris has a bad reputation. Often seen as the black sheep of the Disney family when it comes to it's food selection, it is often described as overpriced and a little bit of a disappointment. Now, when people tell me this, I frequently point out places like Cowboy Cookout Barbecue  that offer great food at a somewhat reasonable (at least by Disney standards) cost.

So why do I think that it gets the reputation? I'm going to guess that people assume that every counter service is like Restaurant en Coulisse. A place that, despite it's bright flashing lights, doesn't really carry itself compared to other eateries in its category.

Brights lights, blah burgers. Picture Source: Disneyland Paris

Now, don't get me wrong, the food is edible. You're not going to chunder it and you'll feel somewhat content after consumption. However, it isn't worth the trouble it takes to get it. The queues and scraps for seating aren't worth the time and/or effort.

So where has it all gone wrong? Well let's start with the location. It's in Front-lot, also known as the first building you walk through to get to the good stuff. This means that you get all the people who have just arrived at Walt Disney Studios, all the people who want a quick food stop and all the people who want to grab a bite to leave in the same area. This means, even on a quiet day, you can really struggle to find seating if you want to eat during the peak lunch times.

This element of crowding also means an extra down downsides. Downside one, is that it's very loud. If you have younger tiddlywinks or people in your party with a sensory issue, DON'T EAT HERE. Walk about 5 minutes more to Blockbuster Cafe or look at eating elsewhere and coming back in the park because if you eat here, you're not going to have a fun time. Put it this ways, if the noise doesn't trigger them, it'll be the glaring neon lights that are used for an atmosphere.

The second downside is that queues here can get very long. Especially if you go in those peak times, I mentioned earlier. Now don't get me wrong, I don't mind waiting an extra 10-15 minutes if I'm on a nice chair and the food's worth it. However, the food  here is your very basic burger meal and I'll be honest, not really anything to write home about.

Overall, Restaurant en Coulisse is a very basic counter-service restaurant. There are far better places to eat in Walt Disney Studios if you're willing to pay more, otherwise I would say exit the park, grab something from Disney village and go back in afterwards.

Final score: 4/10

What are your experiences with Restaurant en Coulisse? Have you had a better experience than I have? What place do you like to go when you visit Walt Disney Studios? Let me in the comments. Don't forget to suggest any places that you want me to look at in the future and check out the reviews page for a list of all the places I've reviewed thus far.

In the mean time, make a wish and lick your lips.
