La Cantina

Fact-File

  • Location: Hotel Santa Fe
  • Type of restaurant: Buffet Service
  • Cost: 30 euro for an adult with a soft drink and 18 euro for a child. This restaurant is on the Hotel (Santa Fe only) and the Standard meal plan.
  • Option to reserve a table: Yes
  • Character Dining: No.
I couldn't review Chuck Wagon Cafe without also having a look at La Cantina could I? Think about it, they are both buffets, both the official restaurants at a value hotel and are both 20 minutes away from the Disney parks.

So what do I think of La Cantina? Well La Cantina in some ways shares some of the same problems of the hotel that houses it. It's cheap. Both pricewise, well for Disney standards anyway and presentation. Whether it's the iconic #PlasticPlates that are a regular topic of conversation when one discusses Santa Fe to the average effort of presentation of the food. It always has a small element that whips you out of the Disney experience, a reason I ranked Santa Fe so low on my hotel ranking

In addition, booking is vital. La Cantina can become incredibly crowded after park closing which can be very overwhelming for young tiddlywinks and people with disabilities/sensory issues. If you want a relaxing place at the end of the day, then this isn't the restaurant for you unless you have your dinner very early.

It tastes better than it looks. Promise. Picture Source: DisneyOpa

Now before you accuse me of completely bashing this place, it does have some things going for it. Firstly, the truck that holds the salads and the petrol pumps are completely Instagram worthy and drag you straight back into the Disney experience after your 3rd #PlasticPlate.

In addition, the dinner options actually taste pretty damn good. The tex-mex options taste really nice and there's always things like chicken nuggets for those less adventurous. In addition, there is now an addition of a chocolate fountain which, as a chocoholic, I highly appreciate.

Breakfast wise, you can enjoy the traditional Disney hotel breakfast of meats, cheese, pastries and fruit. All served buffet style with unlimited juice and hot beverages.

So what are my final thoughts about La Cantina? I actually think they reflect on my thoughts of Santa Fe as a whole. It's buffet has some really fun Tex-Mex and dessert options, which taste really good. Whilst the trucks and the petrol pumps provide some really fun photo opportunities for your social media.

However, there are little niggles that start to remove you from the overall dining experience. Whether it's the infamous #PlasticPlates or the mass crowds, you can't help but feel a little bit removed from the Disney experience.

If you are staying at the Santa Fe, you can have your dinner here and can leave happy and full. I can't honestly say, however, that you should make the effort to dine here, especially when you have better and more immersive buffets on the same level of the meal plan.

Final Score: 6.5/10

Well folks, are you ready to get #PlasticPlates trending? What are your experiences of La Cantina? Do you prefer to dine elsewhere if you stay at the Santa Fe? Where do you want me to review next?
