Chuck Wagon Café

Fact-File

  • Location: Hotel Cheyenne.
  • Type of restaurant: Buffet Service
  • Cost: 30 euro for an adult with a soft drink and 17 euro for a child. This restaurant is also on the Hotel (guests at Hotel Cheyenne only) and Standard level of the meal plan.
  • Option to reserve a table: Yes
  • Character Dining: No.

If you plan to stay at the Hotel Cheyenne, you will be well acquainted with the Chuck Wagon Cafe, the home to your buffet breakfast (if you have chosen to add breakfast or paid for your meal plan) and most likely a place you'll stop off at arrival. The million dollar question then becomes if this place is worth the 20 minute trek from the main Disney parks and if so, why.

The easiest way to describe Chuck Wagon Cafe is a buffet version of Cowboy Cookout Barbecue. Your hot protein items are going to be along the likes of whole chicken legs, BBQ ribs and sausages, all of which are beautifully cooked and full of flavour. Seriously, if you are a meat eater, try the ribs, they are absolutely divine.

For your sides, expect things like corn on the cobs, green beans, a variety of salads and BBQ beans. In addition, a speciality item that makes this place stand out is their jacket potatoes, complete with foil wrapping. A very authentic and rustic touch. Of course, it would be a rustic country themed buffet without a plethora of barbecue sauce and Chuck Wagon Cafe does this by the bucket-load, literally.

Dessert wise, is a a little bit of a meh situation. Whilst they do an AMAZING Creme Caramel (seriously, I'll reserve 3 bowls just to consume as much of the stuff as possible), I struggle to remind a dessert that was particularly iconic to Chuck Wagon Cafe.

So that's your dinner sorted. What about breakfast? Well, it's once again, like the dessert, tasty but with nothing that makes it stand out. Expect deli meats and cheeses as your savoury items and then a plethora of pastries, breads and fruit for sweet treats. It's very similar to every breakfast buffet in Disney's main 7 hotels so if you're staying at the other hotels, you're not missing too much.

Overall I like Chuck Wagon Cafe. I've eaten there numerous times when I've stayed at the Cheyenne and I've yet to have a bad experience. That being said, there is very little in the breakfast and dessert department to make it stand out from the other buffets on site.

In addition, it is a 20 minute walk away, unless you are staying at either the Cheyenne or the Santa Fe. Something that may put some guests off, especially given the restaurant only opens for dinner service unless you are staying at Cheyenne. Especially since you'll have clocked a good few miles on the pedometer by park close.

Final Score: 7.5/10.

So what do you think? Do you agree with my score? Would you score Chuck Wagon Cafe higher or lower? Is there anywhere that you want me to review next? Let me know in the comments. Don't forget to like the official Facebook page, subscribe to the blog and follow the blog on Bloglovin.
